Campaign Mode

The Singleplayer Campaign is one of hitorino’s signature offerings. This work blends the emotional depth of a visual novel with the charm of virtual idols, creating a uniquely innovative experience. Unlike the virtual idol version, Campaign Mode differs significantly in production budget and target audience. It is designed primarily for two types of users: players seeking rich storytelling, emotional impact, and deep character arcs; and viewers who enjoy cinematic, high-end audiovisual productions.

Notably, Campaign Mode is not produced by hitorino.TV, but is developed independently by the team at hitorino interactive.

Story Setting

In contrast to the light-hearted tone of the virtual idol universe, the Campaign Mode adopts a more serious and grounded narrative approach. It focuses on the characters' experiences within a realistic timeline, whereas the idol version is set in a parallel world. Here, character behavior and emotional responses are crafted to feel more authentic and believable.

Character Differences

Due to the heavier tone and ongoing narrative progression, characters in the Campaign Mode evolve noticeably in both personality and appearance. For example, Hikari Sunnvei is portrayed as a noblewoman raised in the East who is forced to return to Norway to take on her father’s legacy, eventually reuniting with her younger sister Nøva Sunnvei after ten years apart. While the virtual idol version briefly mentions their backstory, it doesn’t delve into the emotional reunion or Hikari’s personal struggles. As the story unfolds, Hikari suffers a devastating loss—losing the love of her life—and ultimately transforms into the cold and calculating capitalist known as The Black Raven.

Similar narrative arcs and character transformations are present across other key figures as well.

Additionally, many characters appear exclusively in Campaign Mode—such as Tir—along with a fully realized cast of richly developed NPCs.

Technical Specifications

The cinematic presentation of Campaign Mode is rendered in Unreal Engine 5, marking a significant leap in visual fidelity compared to the virtual idol version.

Built on the foundations of a platform backed by the expertise of the previously undisclosed hitorino interactive, this campaign was developed entirely without external investment or crowdfunding. Operating at a small scale, the team was able to fully embrace creative freedom in pursuit of cinematic storytelling.

The campaign adopts more advanced and mature technologies—many of which have already been proven within hitorino.TV and are now further refined for this mode. From image quality and audio to lighting and shadow effects, everything has been elevated. High-poly character models are exclusive to Campaign Mode, typically featuring 5 to 10 times more polygons than those used in the idol version.

Motion capture, audio rendering, and actor performance have all been enhanced, with the help of professional film composers and a cast trained in dramatic acting. These improvements result in a far more immersive audiovisual experience and nuanced performances across the board.
